How Rabirndranath was there at every step of my life.

My journey with Robi Takhur (Rabindranath Tagore) started from the various poems Maa recited when I was a child and of course with our National anthem and ‘Ekla Cholo Re’.

But the first time I would say I fell in love with him was when Maa read out Karn-Kunti Samwad from Sanchayita.

As I am born and brought up in Maharashtra I couldn’t read Bangla well and so Maa read out the poems and stories in Bangla and I used to write the my favourite ones in English or Hindi script.
Karn – Kunti Samwad was the first poem that I wrote in my diary.

You can hear the poem here:

When I was in my teens songs like ‘maya bono biharini horini’ and ‘Amar bela je jaye’ became my favourites.

As I grew up as a young lady and fell in love for the first time Rabindra Sangeet played the magic with songs like ‘Amaro porano jaha chaaye…tumi taayi’.

Listen to the beautiful song here..

Once I got married and got my soul mate Tagore’s ‘jibono Moroner shimana chaadaye bondhu he aamaar royecho daraye’ made more sense :)

Then came my princess…my daughter and the cycle repeats now…

I introduced my daughter to Robi Thakur with the story of ‘Kabuliwalah’.

And as I see her playing I often sing… “Ai kotha ti mone rekho..tomader ai haashi khelaay’.

Listen to this song in the voice of Hemanta Mukherjee.

And at the end can’t stop myself from sharing this beautiful Rabindra sangeet album sung by Shaan..
